Protecting yourself from job scams

Online scams targeting job seekers are unfortunately on the rise. If you’ve been contacted by ASG about a role that is not listed on our careers page or our job board or just seems suspicious, you may be the target of a scammer. These types of scams may involve inviting you to fake interviews, asking you to fill out fake applications, and even counterfeit job offers. These are all tricks to get you to give the scammer money or share personal information with them.

Here are some signs to watch for:

  • You've been offered a job without a recruiter verifying your work experience or asking for references.
  • Unexpected messages from unknown people or unfamiliar websites. Does the email domain match this website? If it doesn't, it may be a scam.
  • Emails from free accounts like Yahoo or Gmail. ASG employees will never contact you about a potential job via a personal email.
  • We also don’t conduct interviews via video chat rooms like Google Chat or LinkedIn video calls.
  • There is a sense of urgency, or the recruiter is pushing you to accept the job now. No legitimate company will push you into accepting a job offer immediately.
  • Communications about a job that contain a lot grammatical issues or typos.
  • Any requests for payment to take part in the hiring process (like buying a “starter kit” or paying for training). ASG will never ask for payment information, except for reimbursable travel expenses for candidates who interview with us in person. Payments from ASG will only come from official ASG accounts.
  • Job offers that come without an interview or have vague job descriptions.
  • Opportunities that seem too good to be true from people you don’t know.
  • Recruiters claiming to have found your resume on unfamiliar sites.
  • Requests for sensitive personal information, like your social security number or bank details during the application process.

If you received outreach or a job offer from ASG that you are concerned is a scam, please notify us via our contact form.
